STS-95 Payload

(John Glenn's Return to Space)

Discovery was launched on Oct. 29, 1998 on mission STS-95, carrying a distinctive crew member, John Glenn. Due to the presence of ex-astronaut Senator JOHN GLENN, this mission provoked more publicity for NASA than any other space flight in years. Other international crewmembers included first Spanish astronaut Pedro Duque and Chiaki Mukai from Japan. Main payloads aboard Discovery included the Spacehab single module, the Spartan 201-5, the International Extreme Ultraviolet Hithchiker-3 (IEH-3), the HST Orbital Systems Test Platform (HOST) and Getaway Special canisters.

This was the first time that NASA's "Meatball" logo was introduced on all Space Shuttles.

Discovery landed on Nov. 7, 1998 at Kennedy Space Center.
