SPACE X "Falcon-9 / Dragon"

CRS-2 (Cargo Resupply Services Mission 2)

The SpaceX Falcon-9 was successfully launched on March 1, 2013 from Space Launch Complex 40 (SCL-40) from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on the Second Cargo Resupply Services Mission. This is the second of 12 planned Resupply missions to the ISS that SpaceX will fly for NASA under the Commercial Resupply Services Contract.

For this mission, Dragon carries an external payload in the trunk called the Heat Rejection Subsystem Grapple Fixtures (2 bars with grapples). NASA and SPACEX are very secretive about showing photos of the payload, so details are obscure. The papermodel for the payload posted here is based on information obtained from the internet.

The AXM version for the Falcon-9/Dragon papermodel was made possible from NASA's photo gallery website. This model is available as a free download.

Enjoy the photos and the model!

Differences from CRS-1 paper model

There are small differences noticed on the exterior of the Falcon-9 rocket and Dragon capsule. This time, the Dragon logos on the solar panel covers are the same size as they were during the COTS-2 mission. The letters of the SPACEX logo on both sides of the Falcon-9 booster are spaced out and are about one letter size much higher than on previous flights. There are no logos from Orbcomm because there is no satellite to be delivered for this mission.
