STS-128 Payload / 17A

Space Shuttle Discovery STS-128 was launched on August 28, 2009 to the International Space Station carrying for the sixth time the Multi-Purpose Logistic Module "Leonardo" and a spare hardware for the station, an ATA (Ammonia Tank Assembly). The main objective is to help establish the 6 man crew on the International Space Station. STS-128 will also be carrying the treadmill named C.O.L.B.E.R.T.

Discovery docked to the ISS on Aug 30, 2009 celebrating 25 years since her Maiden Flight with STS-41D on Aug 30, 1984.

During STS-128 mission the crew will replace an empty Ammonia Tank on the P1 truss and return one of Columbus exterior payloads, the EUTEF. This payload will be placed back on the LMC for return to Earth, as well as the old empty ATA. The MISSE 6A & 6B from the Columbus exterior platform will return to Earth aboard Discovery and placed on the MISSE's sidewall carriers on bays 4 and 5 on the Port side of the payload bay.

For this model, the payload detail was made possible thanks to NASA's photo Gallery. It is a FREE model because all the elements have been released separately from other missions.

This mission is very special for me. I was very fortunate to visit Kennedy Space Center on Aug 6, 2009 as part of my vacation and was able to take photos of Discovery on the launch pad.

Aaron O'Brien built the beta model and thanks to him the early release of this payload was made possible.

Enjoy the photos and the model!
