STS-117 Payload / 13A

Space Shuttle Atlantis was launched on June 8, 2007 on an assembly mission to the International Space Station carrying the S3-S4 Truss segment. Atlantis was the same orbiter that carried the P3-P4 truss a year earlier under the same payload bay configuration. This truss is similar to P3-P4 with the difference that carries 4 UCCAS and has no thermal blanket.

The S3-S4 truss was installed on the Starboard side of the integrated truss system and attached to the S1 truss.

The crew of Atlantis added a new member, Clay Anderson who originally was assigned to STS-118. But due to the hailstorn that damaged the External tank of STS-117, the 118 mission was further delayed, so Anderson was moved out to join the crew of STS-117 in order to replace Sunita Williams who needed a ride home.

With the addition of the S3-S4, the ISS had a new configuration, making her more symmetrical.

For this model, the payload detail was made possible thanks to NASA's photo Gallery. Technical data obtained from Robotics documentation from NASA website.

Enjoy the photos and the model!
