STS-115 Payload / 12A

Space Shuttle Atlantis was launched on Sep 9, 2006 on an assembly mission to the International Space Station carrying the P3-P4 Truss segment.

This mission resumed the assembly of the ISS since 2002. The P3-P4 truss was installed on the Port side of the integrated truss system of the ISS and attached to the P1 truss. This new truss includes a device called the "SARJ" which stands for Solar Alpha Rotary Joint, which rotates 360 degrees either clockwise or counterclockwise to position the solar arrays to track the sun to generate electrical power to the station. For this mission the P3-P4 truss was covered by a thermal blanket to protect the UCCAS systems.

During an EVA, the S1 SASA was replaced using the spare unit from the Z1 truss. The failed SASA was put back to Z1 for a future return to Earth on a later mission.

Other EVA task involved the removal of the MISSE-5 experiment from the P6 truss and was returned to Earth.

For this model, the payload detail was made possible thanks to NASA's photo Gallery. Technical data obtained from Robotics documentation from NASA website.

Enjoy the photos and the model!
